What is SEL?

SEL, or Social Emotional Learning, focuses on educating the whole child, with an emphasis on character education.  SEL teaches students to be responsible decision-makers, who practice age-appropriate social skills, manage their emotions, and effectively resolve conflicts.

At HPE, we strongly believe that our students are more capable of achieving academic success when they have a solid foundation of character upon which to build.  These skills will travel with them throughout their school years and beyond.

In addition to our excellent SEL instructional practices in the classroom, we are fortunate enough to continue our partnership with Sac State’s SEL Project.  Each week, Sac State Student Facilitators work with our students during their PE classes to develop their SEL skills through fun, interactive activities.
